The Challenge

On Sunday 6th May 2012 six amateur, yet enthusiastic cyclists will set off from Largs Yacht Haven on the West Coast of Scotland on a 6 day cycle to Lymington Yacht Haven on the South Coast of England covering around 480 miles.

The primary aim of the cycle is to raise money for The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a nationwide organisation that takes young people aged between 8-24 sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness. The Trust is a charity that gains all funds from donations and fundraising activities such as the challenge we are planning.

The idea for the cycle was born out of a desire to challenge ourselves physically whilst at the same time raising money for a cause which is close to our hearts.

This is particularly true of Dan, Hannah and Bligh whose employers Solent Rib Charter are a supporter of The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust providing Rib blasts on the Solent throughout the summer months. At the same time Ellen MacArthur is a patron of Solent Rib Charter thanks to a relationship that goes back many years

Skippering on the Trusts charters and seeing how much enjoyment the groups get from it is extremely rewarding.

The group also have their own personal reasons for wanting to support the Trust and give a little back to such a worthy cause.
